Hello,

Has anybody any experience/suggestions/pointers related to tangible
(multi)user(s) interfaces?

Thanks,

Hi Cesare,
A lot would depend on the application area you are working on. Sometimes
TUIs are called Adaptive UIs. The following are some general links I have on
TUIs.

MIT Tangilbe Media Group
http://tangible.media.mit.edu/

Some TUI applications...

Open Source TUIs

TUIs in biology

Emerging framework for TUIs

Thesis - Augmented reality TUIs for CAD design review
http://www.hci.iastate.edu/TRS/THESES/MS-Ronald-Sidharta-2005.doc

Hope these help.

Just to clarify, tangible UI's and adaptive UI's (at least in my
understanding) are really quite different.

Adaptive UI's use some form of artificial intelligence to help users
accomplish tasks, generally within the traditional GUI paradigm, while
tangible UI's attempt to go beyond what is afforded by traditional
GUI's by coupling inputs and outputs to physical objects.

Hi Dmitry,
You are right. Sometimes in TUIs, the input and output to physical objects
might not be the same. In some TUIs, you might have to modify the UI based
on
- feedback from the user
- feedback from an object or space
- mining previous usage data of the particular user
- mining similar usage data from a group of users performing a similar task
So in an application, it is fuzzy and difficult to segregate TUI and AUI. It
is usually in a combination. To put it simply, TUIs may or may not
incorporate AUI concepts. Thats why I said sometimes TUIs may be called
AUIs. In terms of research definitions, as you put it, they are different.
But I have to warn you that I might also be completely wrong. Let me know
what your thoughts are. Thanks for raising this question.
