Icon drop shadow transparency [Graphic Design]

Subject: icon drop shadow transparency

Hi Theo,

I want my drop shadows to maintain their transparency. I have been searching
online in forums but no luck. Can I create icons that darken or multiply the
drop shadow pixel value when seen upon the desktop?

All the shadows I create look light against a dark desktop and lose their
transparency.

Apple & Microsoft icon shadows retain their transparency and appear dark
against a dark desktop image.
