HCI Remixed Project -- Call for Participation

We are inviting you to contribute to a unique
project for the HCI community; the HCI Remixed
Project! Our aim is to produce a collection of
essays in which researchers and practitioners
reflect on a paper or other piece of work by
someone else, that is at least 10 years old, and
that has had a personal impact on their view of
or approach to HCI.

We intend the essays to be brief (about 1800
words), personal in tone, and reflective in
nature. In form they are similar to book reviews,
but rather than taking a critical stance the goal
is for each essay to examine the positive impacts
the work has had. We believe that a collection of
such work will provide a unique perspective on
how HCI has developed, will direct readers to
forgotten or underappreciated work, and will
perhaps remind them that their own work, by
influencing others, can have a lasting impact on
the future of HCI.

A full description of the HCI Remixed Project,
including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ),
submission process, and deadlines are available
on our web pages:

We are broadly soliciting essay contributions from the HCI community.

The following lays out our schedule for this set of essays:

May 12, 2006 - Statement of interest,
indicating the work you would like to write
about, and a paragraph synopsis of your essay. We
will reply to your statement of interest as
quickly as possible.

June 16, 2006 - Polished Essay Due

Week of July 10, 2006 - Accept/Reject Notifications
