Hi!

I´m currently studying Digital Media at the international school of Hyper Island in Stockholm, Sweden.

Me and some fellow students feels very passionate about interaction design but are missing it in the schools curriculum, and we are now starting up something what can only be described as the Dead Poets Society, but for interaction design.

Our meetings will not be held in a cave, but we are looking for input on what could be suitable workshop methods to try out, books to read and other suitable things we can do to get a introduction to interaction design and user experience design.

And would anyone of you be in Stockholm, you are most welcome to meet up with us and give us a lecture. We can´t offer much money, but the biggest and most curious ears you have ever seen. And probably home baked cookies.

All the best

Here's a quick "non-workshop" idea. Take your group and instead of reading Keats and ee cummings, go out to your "cave" and watch Interaction ## videos. After each video have a discussion about the content. Then one from the group takes a salient point from the video (hopefully there is at least 1) and finds something to re-design or otherwise consider from that point of view, or with that method and brings it back to the group a week later and presents it for feedback & critique.

The other thing I would say, w/o knowing exactly the curriculum from Hyper Island, is that most likely you don't need so much hands-on workshopping as you do need a big dose of seminar learning. Interaction Design is as much humanities as it is design discipline. I suggest that you take a more theoretical approach as the means for augmenting your HI education.

Here is the list of readings my grad seminar just did. It was the first time I taught it and it worked out amazingly. 1/2 way through they had to pick an existing definition of IxD and critique it. The final of the class is for each student to come up with their own definition and support it from the literature and from their understanding of practice.

Dear Oskar

You can organize "role playing". It is nice to play with object/artifact and concept/action. It is highly creative. You can see how the workshop work in my book  especially chapter 1-2 and 3
You can get that ebook "Creative Thinking for Interactive Media Design"  at  http://www.lulu.com/content/e-book/creative-thinking-for-interactive-media-design/7910531

Great idea to create your own secrety "society"!

If any of you are down in the Malmö area, please stop by Malmö University and see our Bachelor and Masters studios! We always have projects going on that we'd be willing to show you.

Also, chat with Niklas Wolkert on the IxDA Stockholm facebook page:

Hi Oskar

You guys can also try as simple as solving a problem. Look around you and say.. "how to make this city more _______ "   "how to incorporate this brand at %location" etc. I used to many projects like those in school and it was interesting to carry it through and to pitch it to specific stakeholders. It develops many real-life experiences necessary for the real world.

I am based in Tallinn (just a ferry away). I have been planning a collaboration with some local school and I believe soon we'll be hosting workshops and more. When it happens I'll make sure to invite you guys to come by.

Thank you all for great input, we have placed an order for several books, and started compiling an agenda for the meetings during the spring. I will post a link to the blog where you can follow our progress as soon as we are up and running.
