Web app color scheme research

Can you recommend a good resource (blog, white paper, book) that discusses human factors as it relates to colors used in web app design.  I am specifically seeking information regarding black vs. white color schemes and how people feel about both/each.

Aside from the obvious no-no's (like creating vibrating colors), I don't think you'll find a definitive answer between white vs. black without actually testing your users in the context of your web app (even in early tests you could show folks light/dark examples and get general impressions with simulated content type).  Also a consideration--platform of use.

I've been working on a rich web app that's very dark because it resonates well with our particular audience and brand.  If I were designing a web app for a financial institution, however, I might find that they'd be offput by rich/dark designs.  So it really will depend on context.

Personally, as a user interface designer, I would consider using black background only for special cases, e. g. a photographer's or a heavy metal rock group's website...
