Hi Maurice, et al.,
The recent increase in traffic relates to the release of a massive
bunch of emailed replies from the moderation queue. The current volume
is the typical volume we've had for years—IxDA has always been an extremely high traffic list.
Also, it has never previously operated with an opt-in model where you only received threads you participated in (I'm not sure there is any mailing list in existence which behaves this way) but actually this is a new feature of the new website that we designed precisely due to the high traffic nature of IxDA Discussion. If you are not subscribed to Discussion, but you're browsing the website and you want to participate in a thread, you can subscribe to that individual thread through the big button in the upper right. Additionally, whenever you start a new thread you can subscribe to it at the time of posting your message. These features may be options that folks want to consider. To use the forum in this manner, deactivate your main list subscription and then while browsing through the website, opt-in to an interesting thread.
On the cool-concept feature request list, we envision someday being able to provide a "first post only" subscription that would be augmented by an EMAIL-based opt in behavior. This is really the ultimate for a high-traffic list, because you'd see all the threads start up and then you'd choose to receive comments only for those that seem like they will develop into something interesting. As always, we welcome volunteers or donations to make this vision a reality. This website was always conceived as a platform for future extensions to better support our community of practice.
Thanks Liz.I've said for years, "A good website is always under construction."Just curious. Are there any plans for talent postings? I mean for people available for contracts, freelance, conferences, presentations, reports, etc... Thanks,Maurice
I'm with Maurice on this having just signed up - I am getting emails from discussions I haven't even opened or discovered. Linkedin has discussion threads from groups that you need to subscribe to in order to see/receive all postings. 40-80 emails a day is a bit much no matter what the value.

And the daily digest continues to be completely unusable. I've actually disabled all emails from IXDA and set a reminder to check back in a month to see if some of these bugs have been fixed. It's easier just to come to the site and scan the Discussion section occasionally.
