Bank of America ATMS have had the envelope free deposits for like a year now, sounds like the new Wells Fargo ones are pretty similar. I've actually found them quite an annoying experience. It takes practically twice as long because there is more steps...telling the machine what kind of deposit (cash or check) and verifying the amount and what kind of receipt do you want. It also is very unreliable in being able to read the check amounts. If you have more than one thing to deposit then its even longer. I'm hoping it gets better as the they move forward!

Well I have acutally found the experience quite satisfactory cause its better than going to the office and depositing the check. If there is a queue it could take much longer than the ATM. At my city in Raleigh I find ATMs always free and I can deposit the check at any time of the day or night or weekends. I have done quite a lot of check deposits and it has always worked perfectly for me.

From usability and accessibility point of view I find the Bank of America ATMs quite good, though room for improvements is always there. Though what you say is correct that it does take longer, but 'I think' it gives much better feedback compared to the 'with envelope' deposit option. I wonder if anybody else shares opinion similar to mine.

Thank you,

I'm still waiting to try it myself but this ATM developed by IDEO for the Spanish BBVA looks just great:

Thank you for sending... smart, inspiring, I wonder if they will ever address the hygienic question of using a shared device. Oddly, so far no real news of concern here yet, but it just takes one disastrous experience.

IDEO did make a beautiful product, but I could only think of one thing: what are the blind supposed to do with this kind of ATM?
