good resources on social game currencies?

Hi all,
For a project I'm working on, we're setting up a user reputation system where users gain experience points and achieve levels based on desired actions on a site. We also want to set up a system of basically being able to trade experience points for currency redeemable for free product. Can anyone give me implementation pointers and/or examples, the more specific the better? Pitfalls to avoid? Also looking for good, well-referenced articles or slideshows on how to set up currencies in social game design and/or reputation systems, and the need to have separate "experience points" that interact with game currency that can be traded.

Hi, sorry for being so late, but have you checked askville? (http://askville.amazon.com/Index.do) They had this "quest gold" idea (separated from "experience points") that I've always found quite interesting. I remember that some time ago you could exchange quest gold for minor "presentes" (mugs/t-shirts...), and nowadays they say (in their FAQs) that you can redeem them for some "special offer" from time to time.
