People aren't able to delete their own profiles for various reasons, but there's an administrative "merge" function that a site admin can perform for you. Please get in touch with Matt Nish-Lapidus who can take care of that! In the meantime, of course, you can just inactivate all notifications on one of your profiles.
I'd gone through this very same thing many months ago. I was directed by Elizabeth to use the "Feedback" tab on the right hand side of the site, where you can request to have your accounts merged. I see she didn't reference that tab in her reply, but I would definitely start there and use the GetSatsifaction system, so they can track and resolve your request.
IxDA have no control over the word "Feedback" on that tab. It's placed there via a javascript and links to GetSatisfaction, an SaaS social customer support service. The word "Feedback" does not equate to "Help" or "Support." I know it's confusing and I was stymied by that myself. I had no idea that GetSatisfaction even existed until AFTER I was told to click on that tab.
As technologists, sometimes we forget not everyone knows what the latest innovation is. What seems clearly apparent to some can be invisible to others.
