The editors at IDSA's Innovations magazine have been kind enough to allow me to provide a digital version of an article I co-authored in the latest issue (Summer 2010).  

The article,  Integrating Industrial and User Interface Designers: Creating Effective Interactions, discusses the evolution of user interface methods and capabilities from the perspective of an industrial design firm.  In particular, the article focuses on the key factors that determine when outside expertise is needed and when it makes sense to build-out an internal UI team:

As a UI researcher, I do notice that a quick and effective prototyping skill with industry design knowledge is very helpful for some hardware related project, thanks for sharing the article~
