Interaction12 Location: Consider Amsterdam

I read in the Board of Directors post that IxDA is in the process of selecting a location for Interaction 12. There was a list of locations under consideration, but I'd like to propose one I didn't see in the list: Amsterdam.

Amsterdam has had a lively interaction design community for many years. When I lived there in 1994, someone connected with CERN showed me the first popular web browser and a few months later there was free internet access for the whole city. (A few months after seeing the Mosaic browser in Amsterdam, I got my first web design job in Barcelona, another phenomenal city for a conference.)

Amsterdam has been host to a very active interaction design community ever since, supported by quite a few forward thinking agencies and university programs. Many, if not most, people who live in Amsterdam speak multiple languages, including English, making it easy to take care of logistics. Transportation is outstanding, both to the city and within the city. Artistically the city has a rich heritage, with over 50 museums, including the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Rembrandt house, and many others. As you consider cities for Interaction 12, please consider Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is, indeed, a wonderful city with a vibrant and rich design culture. The process of selecting a location for Interaction 12 has been under way since early April when an open call for proposals was made. The cities you saw listed in the recent Board of Directors post were those who submitted a proposal as part of that call.

With the close of that submission process on July 27 we are no longer accepting proposals. Over the coming few weeks we'll be finalising the selection of the location for Interaction 12 and I hope we'll see you there (wherever 'there' is) in 2012!

Best regards

Oops, missed that, too much traveling this year. I'm looking forward to hearing your choice. Keep up the great work!
