Any informal or social meetings or events planned in the area?

I recently started working in the Cincinnati area and was just curious if this group has any planned or unplanned meet ups or social events? If no social events or meetups are happening, I would be interested in participating in some networking and design discussions with others in this group.

How is the scene down here for UI / UX and the like?

Howdy Jef!

Welcome to Cincinnati.  I just moved here myself, so I may not be the best one to answer your question about the scene.

IxDA Cincinnati is just getting started (literally just formed a few days ago).  We are talking about having our first meetup/networking event the week before Thanksgiving.  Talks with the venue are under way right now.  Final details will be sent out soon--stay tuned!

In the meantime, IxD discussions and problems are a welcome distraction.

Thanks for the welcome.

I had just typed up a thought provoking message, just to watch it not post with a bad refresh. A less put together version of the message is simply this:

Is this group associated with the other IxDA Cincinnati group? Or is that more for the BearCats?

Also, I would like to hear some discussion or thoughts on how to improve the vast space of the Cincinnati Mall (aka the Ghost Mall) through usability and interaction design. Basically a project of social change by way of Interaction design. A while back I was at that mall taking some photos. While there, I couldn't help feeling like I was in the movie I Am Legend.

I second Aaron's hello! There are two Cincinnati chapters - ours working professional oriented, the other student oriented. We are hoping the two groups can come together from time to time.

I love your idea of improving the Cincinnati Mall, thanks! Please send any additional ideas our way.

I think there are a lot of UI / UX professionals in the area, but to my knowledge there haven't been a lot of organized events to bring everyone together. We're working to change that in the near future! We also welcome other disciplines devoted to interaction design.

Thank you for the greeting.

It does sound like a great idea to get the two groups together from time to time. I think the professional experience could be great leverage and mentorship for the students in the area. It could easily be a combination of general UI / UX wisdom and that the area does offer opportunities for the industry.

I am not sure it is the optimal time of year for this next idea, but I think it would be interesting to do a way finding project or social experience/experiment with the Fidlay Market. I haven't been there in quite a while, but that place is always engaging and chaotic.
