Hi -

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good list of user experience-related conference submission deadlines.

I realize there are a lot of conference lists out there (including the ones linked under Resources), but many that I have seen mix conferences with open participation together with conferences that have invited speakers. There are also many conferences that don't make their deadlines for next year clear after the deadlines for the current year have passed. What I'm hoping to find is a list of conferences that have open calls for participation with their paper/presentation submission deadlines.

Thanks,

Eugene

Hi, Eugene,

I think you're approaching this from the wrong direction.  You don't want just a list of deadlines, you want to start by finding a list of events that are worth attending or organizations worth joining.  Then you can determine if your content fits their stated goals.  Then you see if the submission deadlines work for you.

Ideally, you would start as and attendee to get a feel for each event.  Many conferences announce their CfPs for the following year right at the event.   I realize, of course, that we can't all attend everything we'd like to attend, but you can always start with the sponsoring organizations.  They often have message boards or special interest groups where deadlines will be announced.  Or talk to your friends and colleagues who belong to various organizations or attend conferences about good topics; the submission stuff comes later.

Another reason to start with a specific topic is that "user-experience related" includes more great events than you'll find in any one list.  For example, I have often blogged about events I attend or want to attend or am sorry I can't attend - and even sometimes about deadlines (see http://vagabond.blogsome.com/2009/10/27/calls-for-proposals/ ) but my specific interest may not match yours.

Yohan - Thanks for the link.I had seen it already, but this is the closest to what I was hoping to find.

My company is requiring a long lead time to review public submissions, so I'm finding I need to be organized quite a bit in advance.
