Below is the original call for nominations to the IxDA Board of Directors.
You may fill out the form for yourself, or you may indicate and recommend someone you feel should apply.
We will contact all recommended individuals, asking them to complete the form. This gives us a sense of interest, approach and vision.
All complete nomination forms must be submitted prior to Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 11:59 pm ET.

Interaction Design Association is a global
community focused on discussing and advancing the discipline of
interaction design, and the community of interest is growing at an
amazing pace. This growth reflects the increasing importance and
interest in interaction design worldwide. In its young life, IxDA has
grown to 22,000+ members on IxDA.org, 22,000+ LInkedIn group members,
and 70 IxDA local groups worldwide. There is an amazing community of
interest to tap into, and always so much more we could be doing. We
need your leadership and vision to keep the spirit of the organization
alive and and support its ability to provide platforms for the
community to gather and advance the discipline of interaction design
The IxDA Board of Directors are a nine-person volunteer executive committee
comprising of IxDA members who are serving as leaders of IxDA globally.
The mission the IxDA Board supports is:
We believe that the human condition is increasingly challenged by poor experiences.
IxDA intends to improve the human condition by advancing the discipline of Interaction Design.
To do this, we foster a community of people that choose to come together to support this intention.
IxDA relies on individual initiative, contribution, sharing and
self-organization as the primary means for us to achieve our goals.
a volunteer-lead and supported organization with no paid membership,
IxDA relies on leadership emerging directly from the community. We are
seeking highly motivated and passionate individuals, ready to shape and
guide the organization in furthering IxDA's goals and mission.
There are four eligible seats open for the
upcoming term, with two vacancies and two current board
for a second term. Jon Kolko and Kevin Silver have completed their
terms and have decided to step down. Steve Baty and Amyris Fernandez
are seeking a second term. Each
director's term is two years, with the
opportunity to take on a second consecutive term. Current Board
members who are up for their second consecutive term must also complete
the nomination process.
filling these seats will serve a term from January 2011 to February
2013, which includes a one-month long overlap with retiring Directors.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The four executive positions of President, Vice-President,
Treasurer and Secretary have defined responsibilities according to
IxDA's official incorporation as a non-profit entity. These roles are
currently occupied by Janna Hicks DeVylder, Steve Baty (also co-chair
of Interaction '12), Kendra Shimmell and Nick Gould,
respectively. The other IxDA Directors are Joe Sokohl, Matt
Fernandez, Jon Kolko and Kevin Silver. Every director is responsible
for one or more major initiative, currently including communications,
fundraising, mentorship, local leaders, outreach, conference, technical
infrastructure, and education. The focus of this year has been on
creating an organization that can sustain itself beyond the individuals
on the Board.
The director role requires the following commitment:
--Participation in a monthly virtual Board meeting
--Active participation in initiatives that are acting against a strategic direction for the organization
--Responsible for leading at least one major initiative
--Average of 7 hours attending to IxDA business a week
--Attend the Board of Director's retreat, held once a year (travel & accomodation covered)
--Attend the Interaction conference (registration & travel & accomodation covered)
After all nominations are received, the current Board will review all nominations and vote to fill the four positions.
After nominations are received on Sunday, November 21st, new Board
members will be notified by Wednesday, December 8th, and a public
announcement will come on Monday, December 13th after all positions
have been filled and accepted.
The new term will begin January 1st, 2011 and new Board members will be expected to attend IxD11 in February, registration and expenses covered.
