If your company has both an iphone app AND a mobile site, in what ways should they be different? In what ways should they be the same? Specifically for an ecommerce site.

Thanks for your thoughts,

1) You need to ask what the user's goals and tasks are for using an iPhone app and a mobile site to buy something online.

2) You need to ask what the specific targeted phones are for mobile site? Is it more than just iphone? Is it feature phones (touch, nontouch) and other smart phones? Is the mobile site a WAP site, it is a full page normal website, is it targeted to specific devices like the iphone and Android devices? What are the features of the WAP site versus the iphone app and is it feasible to make it a full blown commerce site where people can buy items?

3) What is the current analysis of mobile device traffic to the website?

4) What do your users say? What's the impetus for them using an iphone app versus the mobile website?
