Introducing IxDA's Board of Directors for 2011-2012

We are very happy to announce the IxDA Board of Directors for 2011-2012 with the addition of three new Directors and one returning Director. Please join us in welcoming our new Directors MJ Broadbent, Seamus Byrne, and Kim Lenox, and we welcome back Steve Baty.  Their term will officially begin January 1, 2011. Thank you to all of the candidates who put themselves forth.

We look forward to their contributions to the Board and the efforts they will catalyze for our entire community. Here are short biographies of the new Directors: 

Steve Baty

Steve Baty, principal at Meld Studios, has over 14 years' experience as a design and strategy practitioner. Steve is well-known in the area of experience strategy and design, contributing to public discourse on these topics through articles and conferences. Steve's activities include: VP of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA); writes for UXMatters.com; editor and contributor to Johnny Holland (johnnyholland.org); founder of UX Book Club (uxbookclub.org); co-Chair of UX Australia (uxaustralia.com.au); and Chair of Interaction 12 - the annual conference of the IxDA for 2012. Steve holds M.Ec and MBA degrees from MGSM; and a B.Sc in Mathematics from UTS.

Kim Lenox

Kim Lenox is a founding member of IxDA-SF where she was deeply involved in co-hosting the monthly speaker series and events in 2007-2008.

Kim has spent nearly two decades focused on user experience design, management and delivery of multi-platform products and services with worldwide reach and exposure. She has successfully shipped products ranging from mobile application and OS software, PC desktop software, children's handheld devices, interactive TV, DVD interfaces, interactive kiosks, websites & CD-ROMs. Her previous clients and employers include Adaptive Path, AT&T, Excite@Home, LeapFrog, Nokia, Organic, Samsung Design America, UPC/Chello and a variety of bubble start-ups of dot-com lore.

Currently Kim is a member of the webOS Human Interface Leadership Team at Palm which was acquired in mid-2010 by Hewlett Packard.

The number of Directors on the Board as of 2011 will be our full complement of 9 individuals. IxDA Directors serve for staggered, 2-year terms with a two-term limit.  The 2011 - 2012 Board of Directors will comprise:

We would also like to take this opportunity to recognise the outstanding contribution over the past two years of our outgoing Directors: Jon Kolko, Kevin Silver, and Amyris Fernandez.  In his term, Jon broadened our mentorship program significantly, was a catalyst for the Board in making decisions and trying new directions, and took on the challenging task of co-chairing the Interaction 11 conference.  Kevin Silver has been instrumental in growing our support for local groups worldwide over the past two years, introducing regional leadership and documentation of starting a group, as well as working to create guidelines and principles for how we oranise the entire organisation.  Amyris Fernandez has catalyzed IxDA in South America, creating a regional version of Interaction in Brazil as well as supporting local groups globally.  We owe them a great amount of thanks for the time and effort they have put in, as the community has benefited from their involvement greatly.  We look forward to their continued involvement with the IxDA and our community, even as we say farewell to them from the Board.

IxDA is a not-for-profit organization and is required to have a Board of Directors, but the Board is just one component of the success of IxDA. It is through the conference, the site, initiatives, local groups, awards and individual involvement that the IxDA network thrives.
