Hello IXD community,

After a lengthy IA project involving cardsorting, qualitative and competitive research and all kinds of fun activities, we've decided to use megamenus on our content site.  I've designed the menus and am just finishing up the spec.

However, our SEO team is concerned that the megamenus will hurt our page ranking.  They've asked me to keep the total links to less than 100.  This isn't too hard - I'm pretty much at 100 right now.

My question is: does anyone have any solid research, experience or best practices that can tell me what to avoid and what to aim for when using megamenus?  I want to make sure that I don't inadvertently hurt SEO, even though my primary focus is on making it easier for users to find the content they want.

Thanks for being so great,

-Krys

Ask your SEO team what they think about adding rel="nofollow" to some (or all) mega menu content.

Another option to consider would be having mega menu content added with an AJAX call so that search spiders don't even see the mega menus at all.
