[Interaction '11 attendees] Recruiting participants for a diary study at Interaction '11 ($50 reward)
Dear IxDA conference-goers,
My name is Thomas Schluchter, and I'm in the final stages of getting a Masters at the UC Berkeley School of Information. My capstone project revolves around networking at large-scale conferences. I'm interested in how people make new acquaintances, re-connect with old ones and avoid the looming awkwardness in small talk with strangers. To get some first-hand accounts on this, I will run a diary study at Interaction '11 in Boulder, and I hope I can interest you in participating.
-- How it works --* We meet up in Boulder for a short briefing. I hand you a package with a notebook, a disposable camera and some other fun items. We exchange contact information so I can occasionally send you ever so gentle reminders.* You chronicle your experience and your (wait for it...) interactions at Interaction '11. There will be mini-prompts asking for a few specifics, but generally you document at your leisure and how you see fit.* We schedule a 10-minute meeting during the conference to see whether everything is going smoothly and either of us has anything to ask.* After the conference, you drop off the package at the conference hotel desk, hand it to me in person, or you just pop it in the post (pre-stamped and -addressed envelopes provided).
-- What you get --* A $50 Amazon gift card when we meet up in Boulder for the initial briefing. It is yours to keep, even if you decide to drop out an hour later. No questions asked.* A chance to win another $50 in Amazon buying power as an award for most detailed notes.
If you are interested, or have any questions at all, I would be very happy to hear from you!
Best regards and see you in Boulder,Thomas

I'd be happy to help. Arriving Monday leaving Saturday late. How should we get in touch?
Hey Thomas,
Count me in. I'll wait to hear from you.
Vicente
I'm already planning on taking lots of notes and so would be happy to help as well.

Fun! I'll play.
If you know Daniel Chiang, tell him I say hi! We were co-workers this summer.
Kelly
Sounds great! I'd like to join.
Molly
Cool idea Thomas. I'd be happy to enlist if you're still looking for participants.
Pete
I can help out as well if you still need folks.
