Hi all,

I have seen a lot of jobs advertised in the discussion forum, no doubt as people want to avoid the charge. Is this seen as acceptable by members and moderators? I've had to stop advertising with the introduction of the fee as recruiter as the ROI is not there for us, but it's a little unfair for those who are paying or not paying and refraining to post to see others posting here instead.

P.S What do people think of the price?

I understand the need for funding and maintenance for what is a great site, but I guess there's in excess of $2000 a day income now. Does anyone feel this is excessive?

P.P.S I'm not bitter I can't afford to post, honest :-) Just wanting to spark in interesing debate.

Anyone who posts a job to the main discussions gets an email from a moderator (usually me) letting them know about the job board and that job postings are no longer allowed in the discussions. The post is usually removed and they often re-post on the official job board.

As for the price - the cost of a Coroflot job is actually well below most professional job boards and we have seen a huge amout of usage from our regular job posters. I'm not sure where you heard we are making $2000 a day from the job board, this is very very far from the truth. It's more like $150/day, which will go towards maintaining this site and funding other IxDA activities that all our members get for free.

If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

Hi Sean,

Great question.  While there is a job post here and there that is coming through, we are letting those posters know of our job board.  Certainly if you see something come through and sit, please let us know as that would be an oversight.

While it would be lovely to have $2000 a day in income from the job board, that simply is not the case. The entirety of the job board you see is not sourced from IxDA alone, it is a compilation of all jobs listed via Coroflot and their partners. We have, however, recently discovered that ours is one of the most fruitful partnerships in terms of traffic and new posts, and we had 62 posts over the months of November and December, with IxDA seeing approximately $8,000 because of it. We will receive a report once a quarter so we can track how it's working for the community and the org.

Since we receive no membership dues, and the conference largely funds itself a year to two years into the future, having some steady money come in will allow us to pay for an accountant, pay for legal support, and who knows, potentially get someone to support the website maintenance in a paid role. Right now these tasks are taken on largely by volunteers who simply cannot support the amount of work this growing organization is dishing out.

Many thanks,

And a great response Janna. I for one missed that these are a mix of jobs from multiple sources and not all of the roles are posted on IxDA thus generating a fee!

Keep up the good work.

Any chance of a discount fee allowing us to advertise a 3 month contract we have in New York City starting sometime next week at up to $800 per day?  Wink

Best regards,

@ Matt, sorry I was multiplying the number of jobs I saw posted by your fee. As usual 2+2=5
