MTV.com - Visual UI Designer
Hi all,
I am looking to hire a sr designer with a focus on user interface to help me rethink, redesign, and build the next MTV.com. This is a huge job with a lot of complex scenarios but has huge potential to enrich millions of users.
Sure we're known for The Jersey Shore, but we do a lot more than just channel support on the digital side. For example, did you know we just helped a rapper win the world record for the longest freestyle rap (9hrs 18min) by live streaming the entire thing and asking users to tune in and tweet topics to help him succeed? It was fun, historic and got tons of traffic.
Here is the job posting, but you must apply here and send a resume and portfolio to ryan.shafer@mtvn.com or laurel.woods@mtvn.com.

Does that quote resonate with you? It does with us. MTV Digital is looking for a Senior Designer who has a particular passion for interface design. Do poorly labeled doors handles upset you? Do you debate the difference between IxD, UX, UI labels? Are you constantly designing and redesigning the world around you? This is the mind set we are needing. You will be working within the MTV/VH1 Digital design team, but with a focus on MTV. Our projects range from the fun and exploratory (social based campaigns, interactive video experiences, new platforms exploration) to the scalable and core experiences (video consumption, global UI architecture). You should have exceptional visual skills, and impeccable sensibility for color, layout, narrative and user flow. We need an innovative, self-motivated individual who will embraces the variety of projects and always ensure that a “user first” mentality is applied to all that s/he produces.
Role Responsibilities:
- Translate business and product requirements into an engaging and appealing user experience
- Design and maintain UI architecture with a multi-platform mindset
- Develop conceptual sketches, wireframes, visual mockups, and prototypes
- Collaborate with visual designers, product developers and page developers to derive the most optimal solution
- Present design ideas and concepts to Senior Executives, interpret feedback and define next step solutions
- Analyze data and user feedback gathered during test stages and post launch to initiate changes that drive usage and enhance user experience.
Qualifications:
- Experience with prototyping, paper, html/css/jquery, or any method that gets the idea defined
- Minimum of 4+ years of interactive design experience
- Knowledge of usability principles and techniques
- Expert at creating mockups and style guides that a developer can understand
- A strong online portfolio demonstrating user-centered design solutions and strong visual design sense
- Experience with managing multiple projects
- Very organized and meticulous with tasks
- Well written and spoken English
- Working knowledge of an agile development process
- Know the work of many of the following: Jef and/or Aza Raskin, Don Norman, Edward Tufte, Jakob Nielsen, Oliver Reichenstein, Khoi Vihn and/or Doug Bowman
- Located in or near NYC
Again, if interested apply here and send a resume and portfolio to ryan.shafer@mtvn.com or laurel.woods@mtvn.com.
