Visual / Interaction Designer
If you strive to make your designs pixel-perfect and you love to see how your designs work for real users, this position is for you! Sage is seeking a creative, artistic individual to work on a fun, collaborative team on a web-based application. The designer will work with a small User-Centered Design team in an agile development team to create visual designs and interaction designs based on user needs. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a start-up environment with the benefits of an established, mid-sized company.

Location: Lawrenceville, GA

Position Responsibilities

  • Own the look and feel for a new web-based application, the accompanying website, and related marketing materials.
  • Create visual comps for the application, and work with developers to ensure that the end product matches.
  • Create designs for the application from start to finish. This includes brainstorming design approaches with the team, making sketches and wireframes, and creating other deliverables that help communicate the user experience such as screen flow diagrams or storyboards.
  • Work closely with other team members to discover and refine user needs based on user interviews and competitive research.
  • Create interactive prototypes for usability testing using tools such as Axure, Balsamiq, or HTML
  • Work closely with Usability Analysts to conduct usability testing and iterate on designs based on user feedback.
  • Proactively improve design processes to ensure that deliverables are of high quality and users are kept at the center of decisions.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong visual design skills, preferably with bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration or a related field.
  • 1-5 years experience designing software or web-based applications is preferred.
  • Ability to write HTML and CSS
  • Ability to provide rationale for designs based on design principles.
  • Experience iterating on designs based on stakeholder and user feedback
  • Ability to work collaboratively and quickly in an agile development process.
  • Ability to prioritize work, create and adhere to project schedules, and work under minimal supervision.
  • Experience with prototyping and design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Axure, Microsoft Expression Blend or similar products.

Bonus Skills and Experience

  • Ability to create instructional videos for software products in Camtasia or similar products
  • Excellent joke-telling skills
  • Experience in a user-centered design process.
  • Experience promoting user-centered thinking within a development team.
  • Ability to communicate design fundamentals to the agile team, including information design, visual design, and UI standards.
  • Experience setting up and managing timelines for design projects.
