Onboarding process for SoundCloud

Hi everyone:

I'm working on an analysis of the onboarding/sign-up process for music sites like SoundCloud, for a research project on user adoption of social music tools. I'd love to get some feedback from the community on the pros/cons of sign-up? Does it work already? How could this be improved? Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure whether this is relevant to your study or not but as a frequent user of Soundcloud I like whatever mechanic (cookie + JS presumably) they use to sign me in automatically once I take certain actions. The sign-up process didn't impress me as being any different from anywhere else, but the subsequent user experience is delightfully different enough to stick in my head (and I use several music sites).

Hey Dr. Wex:

So, you've got single sign-on with Facebook as well as just a user name and password. When you signed up, did you sign up to upload audio or were you just curious and then figured it out later?

Would you want single-sign on with Twitter? Are you happy with just the cookies remembering your login?

I'm a listener, not a musician. I went to Soundcloud because artists I knew about and wanted to follow were posting there. I like their player tool and related features. I initially signed on because I wanted to post a question to one of the artists there.

I'm not on Twitter (yet - I keep getting nudged in that direction) so SSO there wouldn't help me. I don't use the Facebook SSO because I don't want Facebook treating my life like its marketing fodder.
