Hello All,

I have been asked to work on capability for mobile usability testing, being from Graphics area i have learned a lot about usability in this forum and use my learnings in my organisation, needless to say my employer is happy with my perfomance and the reward came with another responsibility.

I would highly appreciate if someone can put a light on below:

  • we need to build a solution as write once and deploy many -i thought if we develop application using HTML5 it should be possible, any comment plz.
  • mobile usability testing - who does it and what are the key things need to look if we want to build an inhouse team, any starting point?

all comments/suggestions are welcome.

Best Regards,
Rams

Hi Rams,

I can't help you with your first question, but maybe I can help with the second,

Might I suggest you have a look at http://www.diymobileusabilitytesting.net/ as a source of information on how to do the mobile usability testing yourself? We developed an Open Source project DIY mobile testing rig to fit all mobile phone devices. The whole kit is built from OTS Meccano (aka Erector Set) parts, and webcams.

If you need any other help or suggestions, please let me know. You can contact us at hello@diymobileusabilitytesting.net

I hope that helps, Bernard

PS: I am new to the list. I have been lurking for a few months, but this is my first post.

Hi Rams,

Depending on the complexity of your app, the current HTML5 may or may not fulfill the 'write once and deploy many' effect that you need. For example: If you want to display a mobile version of a website, HTML5 may fulfill your need, but if you want to deploy a mobile game app, I wouldn't bet on HTML5.

The first thing you may want to do before deciding to build an inhouse team for mobile usability testing is to conduct a readiness assessment. Things such as organisational culture, professional development, QA, ROI, budget and politics :-) came into my mind.
