Hi all,

I am delighted to have joined this association and hope I can learn from everyone’s experiences and expertise and hopefully one day be able to contribute myself :)

I am currently studying for an MA at the Nottingham Trent University and investigating the use of mobile phones as computers. My research is at an early stage at the moment.

My primary research will be investigating the possibility of mobile phones being able to connect to larger displays but the processing being done by the phone itself. The display unit would just be an extension of the phones display and would either be (keyboard and mouse, touchscreen or maybe even gesture enabled). My project will involve looking into and developing interactions, patterns and user interface design.

I am currently reading through various books such as designing interactions - Bill Moggridge and interaction design – beyond human-computer interaction  - Preece, Rogers and Sharp to get try and understand the subject as I have a web design background.

I would appreciate any help or direction towards information or research already being done related to my research or anything you may think could be of interest or if you have any comments

Thank you in advance

Dear Saj,

No idea about the research done in this direction... however the Motorola Atrix 4G is certainly a step in the same direction -

Kind Regards,

Thanks Sridhar,

That’s some really interesting information and definitely valuable to the research I’m undertaking. It seems like companies are looking at phones becoming the processing source for expansion devices such as notebooks, display devices...

I will be researching something similar but with a wireless approach, will need to look for possible technologies that can cope with the data transfer between the phone and display device.

Thanks again
