Hi there:

Your local IxDA Planning committee -- Jeff Kraemer, David Modjeska, and Iain Lowe -- is looking for some help and ideas.

If you have any of the following, we'd love to hear from you:

1. Time. Time to assist with event planning, space booking, and faciliation as a member or our committee or a more casual hand-lender.

2. Place. Event space at a reasonable cost is hard to come by. If you work for a company that has space for small or medium sized gatherings and would be willing to share, we sure would appreciate it. Usability Matters has generously supported our event space in the past, and some other companies have offered space to help out, but we'd like to have  a standing list that we can call on for events of different sizes.

3. Ideas. Planning events that appeal to the UX community is fun, but it's also  a challenge for us to keep it interesting and fresh. If you have an event that you think would be worthwhile, we'd love to hear from you.

Thanks

Iain,

I wanted to reach out and respond to your request.  I'm a Sr. Interaction Director at Infusion in Toronto and NYC, I split my time between both cities; usually about 2 weeks per location at a time.  First off I'm very interested in offering up some of my time to help in whatever capacity you need.  Obviously we're all busy, but the UX community is important to me and I'd enjoy being more involved.
Secondly, I've approached the subject of hosting events at Infusion's office in Toronto, and there is an interest in supporting the community, but I'd need to provide some more information before our operations group can officially approve.  If you could get back to me with the following I'm sure we can open our arms to IXDA members:
Approx Attendees: I believe we can accomodate around 80 people, but please provide a range
Frequency:
Equip/tech Needs:
Time of Day:
Event Types: ie.workshop, talk, networking
Food/Bev Req:

Additionally, my assumption is, if we need to rent chairs, or tables or anything for the event that the cost would be incurred by the host company -- I just need to make sure I disclose everything to the operations group.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Iain,

I'll be happy to lend a hand with the Time category. Hopefully, some ideas will come along as well.

Hi Iain,

I would love to help in the "Ideas" area. Do you have a general list of topics already covered in the past?

Thanks to everyone who replied by email or to this thread.

We are going to try to set up a get-together for anyone who wants to help out so we can discuss areas of interest.

Please stay tuned...

Hi Iain -

Depending on the size of space needed, we might be able to accomodate things at the Mozilla Toronto offices (Adelaide and Spadina).

We have a presentation room with seating for 30 (we can pull in more chairs if needed) and a general event space with tables and chairs that can accommodate about 100. We can reconfigure it for larger presentations and it's all wired up for A/V.

Let me know if this is useful, and I can check into details around dates.

Iain,

I'm relatively new to Toronto but would love to start engaging and helping out the Toronto IxDA community .  I'm an Experience Designer at CP+B Toronto, and can also help enquire about the studio space here to add to your list of event spaces.

Let me know!

Thanks,
Charles
