Ruminating an idea: Interest in a conference on Interaction Design Education
For the last bit I have been thinking about creating a separate conference that focuses on interaction design education. By no means is this an academic/research conference, but rather a summit, working group, that is interested in tackling the life-long issues of an interaction designer's career. I moved from industry to education because I saw deep issues in the career development of interaction designers, especially at the early stages of formal educaiton and have grown to hear a must wider perspective on the topic.
So to be clear this event is not something for educators alone. It is for anyone interested in or a stakeholder of education at all levels and in all contexts of the lifetime of the interaction design practitioner.
So that being said, who amongst you would be interested in the following:
- attending such an event
- helping craft a format
- helping me write up a prospectus on how to fund, operate, and curate such an event.

I support your idea of promoting the industry and growth of interaction design, but it seems funding from donation is fairly limited at this time.
You could always start up a state chapter of IXDA and gain funding from the top dog. Other than that I see minimal options apart from starting up your own IxD foundation and gain funding from advertising. However I wish I could play a part in the event, you could always start local with a meetup group.
Dave, your message arrived duplicated and empty here, but I found the original text on the list's website, so I reproduce it here for anyone with same problem. I would like to add that I'm very interested in such a conference.
One topic I'd like to hear is the contribution that Interaction Design programs already gave to Design Education in general. I think there is a particular way to teach Design in IxD which should be highlighted by this conference.

I look forward to hearing from the community.
Great idea Dave. I attended twice LatinAmerica Design Education Conference (Argentina) and it was a nice space for thoughts and exchanges.
I think in Thematic Boards to discuss (first day+half day) and in second half-day would present the results of these groups.
Do you remember that I made a call to create IxD Education Network? This conference would be the start!
I have two experience with IxD education in Brazil where I have been working since 2007.
Cheers!

Hi Dave -
I would be interested to discuss. I'd also be interested to see your workshop presentation if you have plans to present it anyplace other than IxDA Dublin.
Happy New Year -
Michael
Sorry Michael, no further workshops have been planned yet, though if anyone is interested in having us, we'd love to expand the workshop and to take it to other venues.
As for the conference idea, a group of us have decided that the next step is to meet in person in Dublin to discuss. We'll obvious keep the various venues open and probably open on of our own some place on the intertubes.
If you are coming to Dublin and want in on the conversation let me know.

Dave,
I will not go anymore to Dublin....I changed of company and I'm starting a big UX project.
But I will follow here all discussion. Please publish everything :-)
Good congress for all!
Cheers!
Erico
This idea is one going on in my head for quite sometime too.
What can I do to pitch in?
