I've recently been admitted to the Human Centered Design & Engineering MS program at University of Washington.  I was also admitted into the HCI/d program at Indiana University - Bloomington.  Still waiting on a decision from the Digital Media program at Georgia Tech.

SO: if I was to get into all three programs,  which should I choose?  I'm leaning towards HCDE at UW at the moment - i want to be an Interaction designer if that helps...

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated!  Esp. if you went to one of these schools!

I graduated from the HCID program at Indiana University in 2011. It's a fantastic program and I highly recommend it. That being said, it depends on what your goals are. The program teaches you design thinking skills focused around user centered desgin - that is applying technology in such a way that you create software/products that help the user and adhere to their needs. The program is NOT a UI design program - you will not learn how to design an interface, layout a page, choose the right typography, colors, etc. Those are hard skills you'll have to pick up on the side. That being said, it seems to me that most employers value the design thinking skills above the hard skills which can be fairly easily learned.

Let me know if you would like to talk about the program more.
