I'm an adult student, headed back to school to get my first undergraduate degree. I'm very interested in IxD and UX, but am limited to online programs or local to Maryland schools. I'm planning on taking a BS program in Digital Media & Web Technology with minor in Psychology.

Are there any outside trainings I should take or any online programs in IxD I have missed? I know that the University of Baltimore has a MS program in Interaction Design & Information Architecture that I'm hoping to enter once I get my BS.

Hi Mickey, I think what you're planning to study sounds sensible for your end-goal and will likely give you a good grounding in IxD... I'd suggest talking to advisors or professors at the school to see if the Digital Media & Web Technology major speaks to and explores interaction design and user experience in the coursework; maybe there are certain classes you can take that will give you more of a grounding in that arena so that you don't feel like you need to rush into an MS to feel ready to go after careers in the field.

As for trainings and things, as a student it might be worth it to take advantage of the student discount that a lot of conferences offer to attend workshops or just hear more about the industry that way. Plus it would be a good way to start networking a bit around the field. Best of luck!
