The Interaction Design Association (IxDA) is pleased to introduce the new leadership team for the 2014-2016 term. Three individuals from our growing community have been selected to join IxDA’s Board of Directors.
Erik Dahl is the Creative Director and Principal at Involution Studios, Columbus, a design studio and technology research lab. He founded and organizes the MidwestUX Conference, leads the local Columbus IxDA, and enjoys taking pictures of people in their side view mirrors. His work often explores the principles of transparency, empowerment, and cultural connections between people and technology.
Danielle Malik is currently a Product Design Manager at Facebook, leading the Commerce & Payments design teams. Prior to that, she was Principal of UX at Hot Studio, a leading digital consultancy in the Bay Area of San Francisco. For over a decade, Danielle has helped companies large and small embrace new technologies, define product strategies, and craft approaches to great user experiences. She has been chronically active in the UX community, planning and organizing many professional events and conferences. She founded the IxDA San Francisco chapter in 2008, which today features more than nearly 4000 members.
Massimo Scognamiglio – artist, entrepreneur, writer, and web evangelist – is recognized as one of the pioneers of the World Wide Web in Italy, where he initiated projects with BBS in the 80s and from 1994 participating in numerous Italian web projects. Massimo has over twenty years of experience in the direction of interaction design projects. Through his knowledge, he managed online and offline projects for the most important Italian brands, products, people and services. Since 2008, he has been the creative director of Dnsee – one of the most important Italian web agencies – and today he is the Creative Partner of the company, responsible for strategic projects for the key clients.
The new board members were chosen from a deep pool of nominees put forward by the IxDA community. A committee of the Board, including Nick Gould, Kim Lenox and Matt Nish-Lapidus conducted interviews of short listed candidates chosen from 17 qualified individuals who agreed to let their names stand from the nominations received.
Erik, Danielle and Massimo join continuing board members Nick Gould, Matt Nish-Lapidus and Kim Lenox. Currently, they will participate in board discussion as Directors Elect. In January 2014, they assume their roles in full from outgoing members Steve Baty, who retires as President and Secretary of the board after serving two consecutive terms; MJ Broadbent, who retires as Treasurer; and Seamus Byrne, who retires as Director of the IxDA Events Office.
The current board and incoming directors conducted elections for the offices of President, Vice President and Secretary. Beginning in January 2014, Nick Gould will assume the role of President. Matt Nish-Lapidus will serve as Vice President and Erik Dahl will serve as Secretary. Kim Lenox will continue to be the liaison for Local Groups at the global level.
