Contract work in London?

Hello IxDA-London,

 

I'm currently based in the Philippines / Hong Kong and am heading back to London (I'm British) in a few weeks when I've wrapped up work here. I should be here Monday 3rd June and I'd like to attend the next IxDA meeting in London to meet you guys and network.

 

My questions are about London: What's the work situation like there? And who are the best people to contact?

Non-disclosure agreements

I have a new client who wants me to sign an NDA. The issue is, what I
would be working on has to do with consumer experience. There is a
line in the NDA she sent me that says "all information or material
that has or could have commercial value or other utility in the
business in which Disclosing Party is engaged." That to me seems way
too broad and could negate my ability to work on other projects
related to user experience. Obviously, I am in no way willing to do
that.

Designing a long list of items that people must choose from.

All:

I'm looking for some advice, examples or even recommendations of who might
be good at solving this particular problem for us.

In the context of a longish multi-page web form we have a need for the user
to tell us at a fairly granular level what their occupation is. the total
length of the list is long, more than 1,000 choices. The accuracy of the
answer is pretty important to our business as is our desire not to stop the
users flow through the application because of either the difficulty or
perceived intrusiveness of the question.

throwing out some knowledge to the group...

... particularly in a hungry market.

I was recently put in the position where I was asked to sign something
saying that I was not allowed to go to work for a "competitor" for 6
months after leaving the company.

Lucky for me being in California this is totally non-binding.
