Best Practices and struggles for taking a website and moving it to an iPad

I am about to start evaluating a lot of websites that have moved from the web to an ipad. I am curious about these two questions:

  1. What are best practices for taking a desktop experience and moving it to an iPad?
  2. What are some struggles or pain points for customers when using an iPad?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your feedback!!!

School tablet projects in SF/Bay Area and in Toronto

Lately we have been trying to better understand best practices in tablet use to enhance learning in schools:
http://www.experientia.com/blog/index.php?s=tablets+schools&x=0&y=0

Forthcoming travel to San Francisco/Bay Area and Toronto (for the Interaction13 conference) provides us with some opportunities to visit some best practices.

Does anyone in the community have suggestions of schools to visit or people to meet in either of these cities/areas?

Thank you very much,

7 Mobile Strategy Tips for 2012: Mobile Websites, Tablet Apps and Hybrids

Sites like YouTube and Facebook are already projecting mobile use to surpass desktop use as early as *this year*. What’s your mobile and tablet strategy? Allow me to humbly present the wisdom I got from the experience of walking the last 365 miles. Barefoot. In the snow. Uphill both ways.

Examples of great multi-device applications / service?

I want to put together a set of examples of software and services that are great, interesting (or even plain bad) examples of how to offer a product or service that spans multiple devices / form factors.

Some of the things I've thought of so far include:

  • Evernote
  • Dropbox
  • iTunes

Got any examples that come to mind of great (and awful) multi-platform experiences?

Cheers,

Gabe

Mobile device designers

Is there a subgroup within this community of people who work only on mobile device design?  If not, can we create one or organize one?  I'm glad to do my part.  Or if there's one that already exists (locally) I'd be glad to join it.  Thanks for the feedback.
