Frameworks for rapid prototyping with HTML, CSS and JavaScript

Hi all,

I've been researching a bit on what is the best for rapid prototyping using HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

Until now I was using Balsamiq Mockups, Axure and tools like that but recently I've realized that for some purposes could be appropriate to use "handmade" HTML with style and interactions and refine it and add interactions throught an iterative process.

But I think for rapid prototyping a framework is needed and have to exists already some goods alternatives that make the life easier to designers/developers.

What would you recommend in those cases?

Regarding an Automatic Accessibility framework for web technologies

Hi,
I'm Bryan Garaventa, a blind developer and the creator of WhatSock.com.

Since 2009, I've been building  AccDC, which is an API that accelerates dynamic behaviors while automating accessibility, allowing developers to incorporate performance enhanced processes within their web technologies, without requiring them to know how Assistive Technologies work to make their applications automatically accessible for disabled Assistive Technology users.

Sustainable web design, sustainable virtual design - Looking for commentary and collaborators

Hi, this is Pete Markiewicz, a web/interactive design instructor in Los Angeles.

I'm currently exploring the idea of ongoing conversion of physical design to virtual services. This is dematerialization - one of the features of sustainable design articulated by Nathan Shedroff in his great book "Design is the Problem: The Future of Design Must Be Sustainable".

PDF Mockups

Hi,

Has anyone made any attempt at turning mockups or high fidelity prototypes built in HTML with javascript into a usable PDF file that maintains functionality?  I'm looking at ways of preserving this information (in my case mockups that have alternate views controlled by javascript) in pdf form.  If anyone has done this I'm curious what the process was.  Was there specific changes that had to be made to the scripting code etc...

toggle on / off design pattern

Greetings

Can anyone point me in the direction of a useable design pattern for
an on / off toggle switch to be used online ie using JS / html / css
rather than flash? I'm working on an application that currently uses
colour coding to indicate whether an option is active or not. This
works in the real world i.e. the red light comes on when recording,
but obviously bad for accessibility online due to the different ways
people see colours.

For example, one option in this case is record.

Is using JavaScript to submit a form WCAG 2.0 compliant?

Hi all,

I'm about to go into a series of form redesigns within a section of
my company's corporate site. We've mandated that any new forms or
form redesigns should comply with WCAG 2.0 AA recommendations.

Most of the 2.0 criterion and techniques seem reasonably clear and
I'm not finding it too difficult to find examples of their
application, but I can't seem to locate a clear rule around the use
of JavaScript to submit a form.

Guidelines for opening a printer-friendly page

I'm helping to build a web application that from time to time offers
the user with a printer-friendly version of pages. It seems there are
several choices when it comes to providing the user with a
printer-friendly page. You can open the page in a couple of different
wasy:

- open the printer-friendly page in the same browser window
- create a pop-up with the printer-friendly version

And then you can choose (or not) to use javascript to trigger the
browser's print dialog.

What is everyone's opinion about this process?
