Partial Date of Birth on forms

We need to know the age of users and their children to invite them to take demo-graphically targeted actions on our site.

Privacy concerns are being raised around getting that specific information, and we're thinking of going with Month/Year instead of asking for a full DOB.

I'm suggesting we go with a dual drop-down interface showing months (January, February, etc.), and years (1993, 1992, etc., (users have to be at least 18, so starting there).

Age vs Date of Birth in sign up form

Hi all,
The site we're doing is a contest users enter and submit photos. It
requires users to be over 18, or if they are between 14 - 17 they
have to go through a consent flow.

I got a question from a designer about what would be better in terms
of UX for the sign up form - asking the user for:
- their age with a text input /or select, OR
- their date of birth, with 3 select fields [day, month, year]

Just wanted to get some input about your experience with this.

Why haven't video calls taken off

It was supposed to be the next big thing but it fizzled out like MMS

An important thing to note is you would have to use the speakerphone
to do video calls (unless you're always on BT headset or handsfree,
which is not true for an overwhelming majority of people) and this
compromises privacy in a big way…no one wants people nearby snooping
in on their conversations.

Would love to hear your thoughts on why it hasn't taken off yet?

I will make a post about the responses I receive and will publish them
in a few weeks for all to see (names are anonymous)
