Further Education in HCI (was: JOB: Opsware)

I think that brings up some really interesting discussion points.

1) Should a person be doing a Masters or PhD in HCI or related field without
experience in industry?

I think it's always valuable to have experience to give you real world
perspective and think about how to apply things as you're going through a
program.

I'm looking for one or two summer interns to help me out with some
application design and more visual design projects.

Job: User Interface Designer, Santa Cruz, Ca

A User Interface Designer at Validus develops the underlying
concepts and detailed user interface elements behind our
multimodal, handheld medical products designed for physicians.

As a UI Designer at Validus, you will:

+ interact daily with content and speech UI designers,
the engineering team, and staff physicians;

+ conduct some formal, but mostly guerilla user research;

+ work with the product team to map your findings into
detailed design specs for the interaction design, application
flow, screen layouts, GUI elements, etc.;

+ create and fully develop GUI designs
