Automatic customization of user interfaces

I just saw this in action at UIST. It definitely customizes well for
various window sizes and display properties. The authors are now
working on a rendering engine for the Web, among other things.

What do people think of the implications of this work? Will adaptive
systems ever replace UI designers? ;-)

Converting web app to .net

I am interested in finding out more about Smart Client web apps using .NET
Does anyone know of any good resources for designers on the subject?
Everything I find is oriented towards developers. A client of mine wants to
repurpose their current HMTL app in .NET and I need a good understanding of
the model and the behaviors I should expect.

RE: Payment for Testing for participants?

How much would one expect to pay a user (it would be a developer) for a two hour usability test? I am thinking $75-$100 after looking at Craigslist.

recruiting agencies for testing

I am looking for recruiting agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area that is capable of recruiting enterprise users. Any ideas or recommendations?

Also, what do you think that approximate cost might be that an agency would charge to recruit per person? I am looking a doing a usability test of approximately 5-10 people on an enterprise developer type of product.

Ecommerce - What to show?

What to show when pitching an ecommerce site?

We are generating an estimate for an online collection agency that will be
divided into three distinct sub-sites based on services and functions.
Management is requesting we show some design comps before we have even
discussed site architecture, user and information flows, business
objectives, etc. It doesn¹t make sense to me to approach it in that manner.
This project is in the $75K range.

Digital/Interactive TV usability & interaction d esign

You might want to look for literature on the Philips CD-I format (1989-96)
or on WebTV -- both are interactive formats geared to TV resolution.

Digital/Interactive TV usability & interaction design

Hey folks,

I am looking for software to use in testing TV-applications, does anyone
have any experience in conducting digital/interactive TV tests?

Are there any good books or references about digital/interactive TV interaction
So far, I haven't found any and I am wondering how the existing applications
were designed, what criteria for user-centered design were followed, what
guidelines etc..
Obviously more and more interactive TV applications are being created and
used (more so in Europe) but very few have been discussed in the HCI & interaction
design circles.
The research and

research: music and memory

Marcos Weskamp and I are currently working on a project that links
music and memory, at Interaction Design Institute Ivrea. At this point
we are collecting data to populate the database that will be used for
the visualization.

In a form we have put online we ask you to mention a specific song that
you relate to a memory. Do you have a specific song that reminds you of
your first girlfriend; that cool wedding of your best friend; a summer
vacation? We are sure that you can find plenty examples! You can even
sketch out your memory, among other things!
