Not taste from my pov. Functionality. Fireworks is a cool drawing tool,
but I don't consider it useful for the kind of screen work I create.

chart/table design reference

Hi all -

Aside from Tufte, does anyone have any resources on chart/table design
that they wouldn't mind sharing? Looking for specific graphic design
guidelines more than guiding principles.

there is a book called the "information design desk reference" that
looks like it might be useful, but I cannot tell much about it from
poking around on the internet. "information visualization: perception
for design" also looks interesting.

Familiarity versus New and Better

This is more a political matter of question. People (in this case:
users) acustom very well and quick to good solutions. So I would go
for a). Of course, if you are sure your solution is better.

The only drawback is that the "mother's" failures will be even more
visible. Mother could get angry ...

Switching is an interesting discussion.

The question I would ask anyone making a switch is, "did they always have
the choice of returning?"

I have "forced" my team to all use fireworks instead of photoshop for screen
GUI design (low leve/high fidelity).

FW: Adobe takes over Macromedia

I think the real issue here is the longer term relationship between flash
and svg and for Adobe having a credible graphics library for hand-helds,
mobile phones, imbedded devices, etc. By joining together they can
eliminate some confusion between do I use flash or svg and at the same time
get them selves ready for Microsoft's coming xaml with the release of
Longhorn, (avalon).

Flash and SVG are real-time vector graphics so is Microsoft's new OS. What
happens to Macromedia if they were to loose the battle or to Adobe if they
never tried to even win?
