"Results-Oriented" GUI?

So Nielsen is touting the new MS Office 12 UI changes. In the above article
he describes the changes to the Office UI citing it as a paradigm shift. He
also says something even more interesting to me:

" If anybody else introduced a new user interface paradigm, it would
probably remain a curiosity for years, but Microsoft Office has a special
status as the world's most-used interaction design.

SV: Re: Icon design resources

I would recommend TAT. They are specialised in
developing icons (drawn and 3d-rendered) and user
interfaces for mobile devices.

Article of interest: Web 2.0 needs good IxD!

Dirk Knemeyer recently posted this article, entitled Content is King No
More: Web 2.0 Is About Interaction

I thought it outlines a good history of how we got here and why IxD needs to
brought central as Visual Design started out in the early growth and IA
during the boom.

Danna Hudson

First, let me introduce myself, Danna Hudson the new LA IxDG Coordinator.
I've taken over for Elizabeth Bacon.

I've received many inquiries about when we're going to have the next LA IxDG
F2F so I wanted to send an email out.

Dave has informed me someone is setting up an IxDG face to face at the DUX

metaphoric interfaces

My boss wants me to create a metaphoric interface for a website
(really!). He's from Natural Resources though. Our clients have already
created a prototype based on a metaphor and he wants me to improve it.

(Its a Natural Resource website and the Interface has the image of a
scenary that they created, with icons of camping, lakes, hiking etc near
corresponding items.)

I'm planning to convince my boss/ clients that metaphors were disposed
ages back for informational websites.

The affect of PRINCE 2 on Enterprise IxD

I'm interested in opinion on this subject as it appears to me to be a really
key issue in moving IxD on in the enterprise solution world.

I wondered what the experiences of the list are with enterprise 'standards'
and 'processes'. So, for example let's take the PRINCE 2 Project Management
process. This process advocates the appointment of a 'Senior User' on the
project board. Many IxD related problems ensue from this appointment as it
appears that it's aims are to trivialise the importance of the actual people
who will benefit from the proposed solution.
