CTQ Analysis

Does anyone know of good resources for conducting a comparative Critical to
Quality analysis?

I¹m looking for examples, instructions, templates, etc. on how to prepare
and document this type of research.

Cheers, Gretchen

Great description of simple web site design

Not to focus just on the web too much, but this is just too cool.

Sparkle [Was: Re: Adobe & Macromedia deal in the NY Times]

BTW, Sparkle is exactly Flash. Both Mano (the designer) and Sam Wan
(the PM) were old Flash community buddies...

Not sure if the Flash is 99% evil will now also apply to sparkle :)

Cheers
Navneet

thoughts on design

A few thoughts spurred by a prior thread...

Design is not a random, spontaneous act. It has purpose -- a goal that is trying to be achieved. Good design achieves the intended goal or purpose (or, at least gets close). If I design a chair that is visually appealing, but terribly uncomfortable, my design has not succeeded (as a chair, although, it may succeed as sculpture, or *art*.)

It is true that some designs may be overly constrained due to business issues. But, this is nothing new.

Adobe & Macromedia deal in the NY Times

Adobe's Deal for Macromedia May Help It Fend Off Microsoft
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/12/technology/12adobe.html?adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1134399972-aZOw1FTlflLoLBEce8cpoQ

This has got to be one of the least well research articles I've ever seen in
the Times.

"But the creative market has proved challenging for Microsoft.

dashboards... taskboard

Interesting sidetrack: Can anyone cite an example of a prominent metaphoric
nickname that was unseated by a more descriptive name? I'd love to see
"wizard" changed to "step-through dialog" but know better than to fight for
such a lost cause.
