Interview Excerpt: Marc Rettig

I've been fortunate to get some great interviews with interaction
design luminaries for my upcoming book. Most of the interviews have
been too long to publish in their entirety, so I'm excerpting them on
the book's website and including some (great) material that
unfortunately won't make it into the book.

I've just posted the first excerpt: an interview from Chapter 1 with
Marc Rettig, discussing the History and Future of Interaction Design.

The Amazon of Usability

In a recent thread, Oleh referenced the Amazon page for Cooper's book:
http://tinyurl.com/8x5xq. I know that Nielsen has already observed that Amazon doesn't have to play by the rules anymore, but I'm curious what the consensus is on the usability/UI/graphics/interaction of this page... and if there's possibly a bigger message.

Just causing trouble,

Hi Rich,

No direct experience, but the latest Contextual Design Book - Rapid
Contextual Design - includes a chapter on integrating CD with other
methodologies such as RUP or XP. In particular they talk about Rapid CD
providing material for use cases/user stories.

iSIC: information through music

I found this very intriguing:

iSIC is short for information music. It is a unique research project
which explores the use of musical rules as a way to convey
information. iSIC is a monitoring system, sort of a baby sitter for
big complex systems. The complex system could be a large network, a
server farm or a nuclear facility. iSIC lets operators mind the
activities of systems through precisely mapped sounds which play
pleasantly in the background. To achieve this the sounds are expressed
as a musical paradigm.

Top IxDs in South & East Asia

Who are the top luminaries of Interaction Design (define as you think best)
in South and East Asia.

I know there is good work going on there, but I don't know who is driving
the community, the education, the theory, and the practice of IxD.

Are there cultural considerations that make it hard for people to "stand
out" that I am not aware of?

Is there a Jonathan Ive? A Tog? An Alan Cooper? A Gillian Crampton-Smith?

I'd really like to get some sense of the lay of the land in that fairly
large and well incredibly active design community: India, S.

Mixing methodologies - Contextual Design/UCD with XP/Agile - experiences and/or best practices

Does anyone have experiences mixing design/development methodologies
UCD/Contextual Design with an Agile/XP process?

The company I'm working with is implanting an XP link methodology Scrum,
which is very focused on optimizing internally requirements gathering,
design and engineering deliverables, but lacks a formalized collaborative
involvement with the end user.

Contextual/UCD on the other hand lacks detailed best practices in rapid
iterative development from an engineering perspective.

Does anyone have any experience marrying the best of both methodologies, or
does one encompass the
