NYC IxDA Event: WireFARM 2006, April 13th @ 6:30 pm

NYC IxDA IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE
WireFARM 2006

Come to WireFARM '06 and share your prototyping techniques!
Interaction Designers use many tools to mock-up user interfaces,
including paper and pencil, PowerPoint, Visio, Dreamweaver,
Photoshop, and Fireworks. We also tend to grow our own techniques,
and rarely have a chance to share them. We will feature presentations
from local designers, each showing off current best practices in
prototyping.

NOTE: We are looking for presenters.

San Francisco User Research Project

We are in need of a user research consultant to help us and our
client understand the needs and behaviors of three customer segments.
The project will run from April 1st to the 21st and will probably
consist of about 10-15 interviews.

The contractor will be responsible for recruiting, conducting the
interviews, and aggregating the results and recommendations into a
final deliverable. Please be prepared to provide examples of similar
projects you have done and ballpark figures so we can budget
accordingly.

The popularity of wheel mouses?

Hi,

What's your best estimate on how many people take the advantage of
using the mouse wheel when scrolling? Maybe it depends on the target
group, but let's assume that the group is really big and general,
like Google visitors.

a) around 30 %
b) around 60 %
c) around 90 %

Are there any studies on this subject? Or even polls?

My own guess is B.

How to manage a large control library?

Thanks for the insights Rob and good to know I'm not alone in the chaos.
Your process sounds much the same as what we have in place currently,
yet whats also proving difficult to manage within our team of six Visual
Designers. Perhaps we need a Keeper, like you suggest. Or perhaps pass
this role onto a project manager to maintain.. seems like more their
area in a way.

A resource site is something we've considered, it just comes down to
allowing development resources, and in a way, it seems it's for reasons
like this that Version Cue was invented.

Live

Hi All

I was just comparing. Microsoft windows Live image search provides more
result (in numbers )than other image search engines if user keeps setting
as small display by horizontal controller. At the same time web result shows
a range of 3-6 result per view and other search engines show around 10.

I wanted to know weather designing these type of information display
requires human eye information scanning studies if yes than please send me
some pointers.

I observed that the Live's smart scroll is so smooth that I keep doing
scroll and scroll.

Advice on net management control

Hi, vereyone!

I am building a control that should be able to schedule when each service in
a network will be available (days, hours / week) and at what default speed.
This is what I've done so far: (it doesn't look exactly right yet..but that
will come)

The interacting, until now, depends entirely on javascript, but we want it
to work when javascript is disabled, too (preferable in textmode, too). So
we need postbacks.

"The Brain" and "MindManager"

I have been using MindManager in the past few months for a big project and
have found it is very effective and efficient for brainstorming,
listing/organizing UI elements and even creating site maps.

I just downloaded the trial version of "The Brian" and have found it is
interesting, too. It is differently, though.

Does anyone else have experiences in using MindManager and/or The Brain for
the IA or the Interaction Design work?
