Aesthetics of IxD: Some pointers

I have been trying for some time to understand and articulate what
sets the aesthetics of interaction design apart from that of other
design fields. May be relevant for the current thread -- if not,
pardon the following self-adverts.

Briefly, it seems that the key is in the spatial and temporal nature
of digital products -- they do have 2d or 3d form, but they also have
"temporal form" which unfolds in interaction.

IxD F2F in Sweden on Thursday

Hi All

Thursday the 20th is the third Thursday of April. Thats when IxDers
meet after work at three different places in Sweden to have a drink

Prototyping for Mobile Apps

There are several platforms usable for mobile deployment prototypes.

1. SVGt 1.1 and the Ikivo Animator, using XHTML as a wrapper
2. Adobe Macromedia FlashLite, using the Flash authoring system
3. WAP by itself

SVG is the Scalable Vector Graphics format. Ikivo Animator is an animation
authoring package. You can create graphical files, representing user
interfaces, in any graphics editor that outputs SVG. Adobe Illustrator
outputs SVG. Ikivo Animator supports SVG animations of these files with an
intuitive graphical user interface.

Grand Opening of the SLIS Usability Lab at Kent State

This week, April 17-21, is Grand Opening Week of the SLIS Usability
Lab, used for research in the Master's Program in Information
Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM - http://iakm.kent.edu)
and in the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS -
http://www.slis.kent.edu). It is a state-or-the-art facility, with
the latest eye-tracking hardware and several analytical and
statistical software packages.

Aesthetics of IxD

Well, see now it's tricky. As soon as we start to talk about animated moving
*objects*, then we seem to be back in the world of visual aesthetics, visual
attention getting, visual information. In this case, motion graphics.

Learning Curves

One of our products here at work is a web-authoring tool. We let
people layer objects all over their page, and then export their project
into HTML.

From day one we've known that what we show them in our editor will not
be exactly what they see in their browser. HTML is abstract, browsers
have a little leeway regarding how they interpret a page.

We get several complaints from users, though, who very snuggly position
their text within their text boxes.
