Don Norman on the Aesthetics of IxD (well, I think so)

Don here talks about how the behavior of an application can increase the
visceral emotional response and thus increase engagement. To me this is
a prime and well articulated example of the aesthetics of IxD.

Prototyping tools for mobile applications

Hi
We currently use Visio to make flow diagrams and code them up in wml, but
it's quite a time consuming process. Does anyone know of any rapid
prototyping tool for mobile apps? Something like Dreamweaver for mobile?

Design and Open Source Projects

Has anyone here contribtued to an open source project? One of my goals
for this year is to try and attract more participation in Mozilla
projects form members of the design communities (UX, HCI, IDX, IA,
Visual Design, I'm not choosy!)

As someone's who's only recently started working with OSS community
processes, tools and techniques, I know that a lot of the entry points
can be incredibly daunting, and it can be hard to determine where one
would *start* to contribute should one be inclined to do so.

Navigating interactive 3D environments / exhibition spaces

Hi folks,

I'd appreciate a bit of feedback on the underlying UI for this online
exhibition technology.

In this example, the art has been created by various celebrities ( Bono,
Rio Ferdinan etc ), so at least it's interesting to have a look at in
general, while you are testing out the UI.

Usability vs. Marketing (was 'R&D' vs. 'mainline')

I've thought about this some more, and this really comes down to the 'usability
/ marketability' issue. What have others' experiences been with this issue? My
company is almost exclusvely marketing-focused. Getting to end-users for
'real-world' usage info has not been easy. We rely almost entirely on our sales
organization as surrogates for them.

What arguments can I use to challenge this mindset?

Am looking for dirt-under-the-fingernail solutions for 2 HTML site modeling
issues:

1) Trigger an audio stream :

Attributes : Voice superimposed on still photo; Trying to avoid anything
more complex (like Flash). Controls: Start/Stop

I can do this easily in IE, but want to be cross-browser compatible. Right
now <EMBED> seems to be the solution. Any suggestions?

2) Translate our collateral text into Spanish.

Attributes: To be done offline and stored in a mirror Spanish-language
site.
