ARPHIDS NOT RFID

I've just been to a talk with Bruce Sterling at Space studio and it
was an amazing experience to meet him. His speech commands such
knowledge about the different fields of study that he has worked on
over the years. After going to this meeting it has helped me and also
changed the way that I use language to describe a particular
technology, improving my understanding of how we can use this
particular technology.

When you write "aesthetics of use", I think of the difference in "feel"
between, say, using Flickr and using Amazon.com. The amount of information
per interface, the complexity, density, and compartmentalization of
affordances, the difference in mental models and motivations. Is this what
you mean?

Factors influencing the resizing of browser windows (was re: browser window size stats/studies)

The browser window size discussion has highlighted a couple of factors that
may influence a user's choice of window size:

1) Difficulty/ease of manipulating windows in each OS.
2) User's overall task sequence.

I suspect there are a few others:

3) Task location - Are users more likely to resize/maximize a window if they
are engaged in a task that is off-center or near the edge of the browser
viewport?

4) Content type (text vs. images) - Do users resize/maximize more often when
text is the content?

In my opinion, aesthetic qualities influence the use of digital
artifacts in profound ways.

Interaction Design Application Suites?

The problem I have with protoytype tools and GUI framework implementations is that they typically contain a simplified and limited collection of controls. In the world of atoms you can find lots of different knobs, but in the world of bits you will typically find the controls the same collection as +10 years ago. Maybe this is because the programmerism of the days programmers thought they could construct a usable GUI mere by some simple form design tool have not been over yet.

I don't feel in control when using the modern prototyping tools.

OT: Looking for work from home/telecommute job

Hey Guys,

I'm based in Manila, Philippines and I'm wondering if any of the members are looking to outsource some work to a freelancer. I would like to earn income on the side while I'm developing a product of my own. I've been basically doing ASP.NET 2.0 and XHTML stuff now with C# and MS SQL. Prior to doing business on my own, I was working with a Philippine/US based ISV exclusively working on .NET.
