UX Search with Google Co-op

I've created a "UX Search" using Google Co-op.

Find it here: http://gabrielwhite.com/uxsearch/ (yes, the HTML is ugly)

On first glance, it looks like it could be very useful: it's very nice
to be able to do a search using a very generic term (e.g. "roi") and
get UX specific results from a wide range of sites.

Input Field Lengths

I'm currently working on revising some web design standards at work, and
am trying to sort out a minor debate over sizing input field lengths
within forms.

In my experience, the guideline for determining the size of input fields
is to use a size similar to the information that the user will be
entering. So, a field for a 16-digit credit card number should be about
16 characters long; a field for a 3-digit CVV code should be about 3
digits long. For data that is not so determined (email address, proper
names), an average or estimate length should be used.

Give a Little Back 06 :: IxDA Pledge Drive and Online Community Site Preview

GIVE A LITTLE BACK 06

In the spirit of our being a member-supported organization rather than an
organization that charges a fee for membership, the Interaction Design
Association (IxDA) is kicking off its first pledge drive—Give a Little Back
06. If you value the discourse on the IxD Discussion mailing list, enjoy our
emerging community of interaction design practitioners, and believe we need
to build a home for interaction designers, please consider making a small
financial donation to the organization.

Expert/Rapid/Special Forces Design (James Leftwich, IDSA) -- and co.

Re: Expert/Rapid/Special Forces Design (James Leftwich, IDSA) -- and co.

hot topic

-- it's not the methodology, it's the consensus and the results

having lived through an Xtreme project that had the worst outcome i've seen in more than 10 years of doing this, and having also lived thu requirements discovery by iterative email, i now believe that methodology is like paper and pencil; it helps to have one, pretty much any one will do as a starting point, and you're doomed if you're bound by it

a few other observations

Open Laszlo for Dummies?

We're learning OpenLaszlo and are finding it confusing to deploy. If you
have any tips or are willing to answer some basic questions off-list,
please reply to me privately.

For example, the Eclipse environment seems too heavy, and the EditPlus
text editor isn't really enough...

And... why does the output look different on FireFox and IE?
