Model (pattern) needed for setup of functional security

My company's main application currently has hard-coded functional security. In other words, there are a few fixed role names and each role is enabled to access certain functions. (This is separate and apart from "object security" in which specific groups of users have specified levels of access to particular data items.) We want to enhance the functional security so it is customer-configured.

Can someone direct me to a model/ideal design for the administration of functional security?

posting about "get humanized" - Aza Raskin's company and his presentation to Ajax Experience

Hey there,

I thought I'd pass this on. Aza Raskin, Jef Raskin's son spoke at the AJAX
Experience.
I have pointers to a bunch of stuff related to it on my blog:
http://synapticburn.com/

What really interested me is the 4 things that an interface does and how it
is all related to content

Navigate
Select
Transform
Create

On his corp web site there are also 8 rules for humane interfaces worth a
look as well.

Is social tagging a success?

Is social tagging a success?

I'm not a strong user of it, so I'm curious what the perception is. It seems to be highly adopted, but I want to know if it works well when seeking out information?

My Luddite hardcopy background makes me wonder if its lack of hierarchy is an Achilles' heel. (Perhaps specifying multiple tags is the workaround.) I've also noticed a recently-mentioned site where one term seemed infiltrated with overly promotional links, thus my motivation to inquire.

Touch screens for testing environments

Has anyone got a favorite touch screen monitor they can recommend? I am
trying to put together a kiosk testing environment and am looking for
hardware. At first I thought of a Tablet PC, but they seem to all be
Pen-based (I havnt found any which are either dual pen- and touch- or just
touch-)

Any suggestions?

~ Celeste
