JOB: Interaction Designer - long term contract - Redmond, WA - FILTER/TALENT (recruiter)

Interaction Designer
Have you ever had someone reply all to a message sent to a large
distribution list when they just meant to reply directly to the sender?
Have you ever sent mail to someone only to find out later that they are
out of the office? Have you ever sent email to someone only to get a
bounce message back, and been unable to figure out what the problem was?

FILTER/TALENT has a long-term opportunity for a skilled interaction
designer to help solve these problems!

Simplicity (misinformation)

This conversation has one foot in design, another in engineering and yet a third in marketing.

Simplicity is about the usage of the product. It effects the user. Complexity as present here, the 'amount' of features is about the purchaser. These may or may not be the same person, but they definitely have different perspectives and the criteria for purchase and usage are different.

These are very different contexts. The reason that users buy a particular product is for the benefits (pardon my marketing hat).

In search of: User administration IxD examples

Hey all -

I'm looking for worthwhile IxD examples in the realm of user
administration 'enterprise' database applications (think SQL Server). We're
revamping ours and some new(-ish) ideas would be welcome.

Main users would be DBA's or system administrators tasked with setting up
and managing roles, users, & groups and their privileges with respect to
read/write data access, object creation/modification, and the like.

Maybe Vista user administration is worth a look? Are there less-known apps
you may know of that do this particularly well?

Thx,
Bret Hekking

Joost

I have just given out all of my Joost invitation tokens. I see there
is quite a bit of interest. If I get more, I will announce it to the
list again.

Simplicity (again)

http://www.businessweek.com/innovate/NussbaumOnDesign/archives/2007/04/simplicity_ease.html?campaign_id=rss_blog_nussbaumondesign

What do people think about Nussbaum's equation of simplicity with
reduced features? I think he is pretty off the mark here.

Is interaction design the cure or the disease?

Provocative essay. Some good points mixed in with hogwash.

[iai-members] NextD takes a slash at"Findability Information Architecture"

I like GK,

But........

I think he is totally missing the point. The Findability debate has more
to do with how the techologies of search and web 2.0 behaviors are
creating opportunities to build information systems without designed
ontologies. There is nothing against thinking strategically about how to
organize information and designing "information architectures" and there
are many many projects that this is an essential componenent of their
success.
