Do tools matter in Big D design from an execution perspective? Formerly Expression Blend a "review"

Michael, this is great feedback and the 'do your tools matter' is important. But are we confusing having tools 'matter' with being 'important' for a given task? Eclipse and Ant aren't very important for folks that work in the world of .NET but they surely do matter and in fact probably influence how the tools in .NET work and vice versa.

Patterns vs. Designs

Maybe what we need is a library/wiki chock-full of specific UI design
implementations, tagged with a top-level fixed vocabulary of major
pattern names.

I'd like to take advantage of Jenifer Tidwell's expert presence in this
thread to ask both her and the group: Is this sort of interaction really
a "pattern"? Can or should every new type of interaction design be
called a pattern?

Moving UX into a Position of Corporate Influence: What has been your experience where you work?

I'm leading an "interactive session" at the upcoming CHI conference
entitled, "Moving UX into a Position of Corporate Influence: Whose
Advice Really Works?" Here is the abstract:

"Professionals working to move user experience (UX) into a position
of corporate influence are impeded by conflicting recommendations,
including those regarding the roles of documenting and evangelizing
UX work, ownership of UX, organizational positioning, calculating
return on investment, and conducting "ethnographic" research.
