Need navigation help with a complex wizard app

My company wishes to use a wizard to drive the user through the process --
and I think this is a good idea since it is not something most users will do
very often. More likely, they will struggle through it once, refine it, and
not touch it again for another six months, at which time they will need to
be reimmersed in the process. So some good handholding is a requisite.

How have other designers designed navigation buttons when a process included
a difficult and time-consuming step?

I pledged!

I pledged to IxDA today. It was easy. I pledged because:

- I get daily inspiration from our online discussions. Inspiration
that makes me a better, more thoughtful, more responsible designer.
- I get monthly inspiration from our F2F meetings in NYC.

today. We are growing fast, and becoming more and more a significant
representation of Interaction Design professionals.

All our initiatives are maintained by volunteer work from our members.
Likewise, all the financial resources needed for supporting these

Do you do content analysis?

I suppose it depends on the site/system and possibly whether it is new or a
redesign, but do many of you do content analysis in your development
process? It seems like a labor intensive, and somewhat specifically skilled
thing to accomplish. I'm wondering if it is more of a research tool than a
design tool. For your average website where people are skimming and chunking
your text anyway, it seems like it might not be the most appropriate tool.

[iai-members] eBay redesign

>From the article:

""You could go to the site looking for Star Wars items and get the same
results as you'd have had in 1999 - a thousand results all sorted by
what auction is closing first," said Mark Mahaney, an analyst with
Citigroup. "Are you looking for a Star Wars pendant? Poster? DVD? It
doesn't matter. You'll see everything."

And so...they're saying that people actually navigate eBay through the
category listings?

eBay redesign

Hi folks,

sorry for crossposting, but I guess this is interesting for both IA and ID

EBay Moves to Recharge Its Auctions:

* How good will eBays change management be - i. e. will they despise their
users or make them frantic about the new site?

* Which steps will be taken to better the experience of the homepage and the
search results?

* Might there be ribbons?

What do you think?
