Fireworks CS3 Libraries/Templates ?

Have you checked the controls in Window > Common Library?

You can also easily create controls yourself using the excellent 9-
slice Scaling feature.

What Women Want (was: iPhone usability tests) - slightly OT

I had to laugh, reading this email trail. Back oh, about 25 years ago I was
fresh out of college in my first programming job. My group was close-knit,
and most of them had been with the company 10-15 years - pretty senior. I
was in a co-worker's cube typing up my first piece of code (back in the day
before everyone had their own computer), and it worked! As my co-worker
called everyone over for a demo, our boss happened to walk in. Everyone
gathered around as I proudly showed the code working. My boss nodded and
said "how do you type with those long fingernails"?

Portfolio questions

I have a couple of questions. Say, in the hypotethical, a-hem, case that I
were to prepare a IxD portfolio that could be presented to a US employer.
There would be some cultural differences (I'm european) and I would want to
steer clear of the worst mess-ups.

1. Where I am from, its expected that you are somewhat modest and you expect
that the reader "reads between the lines". This is of course just a social
contract. Same or different in the US?

2. What about tone of voice? I'm not going to be flippant, but how dry do I
have to be?

3. How big?

Another experience prototype short, for those interested in the genre.
Purpose to articulate and visualize a product concept in context of use. Not
for external audience, but for internal assessment and buy-in. Shot and
produced over 3 days by 7-8 ID & VC students in my Design Scenarios &
Simulations course at KU Design. Problem involved spotting opportunities
for messaging in school environments where mobile phones and text messaging
devices are prohibited. Students are credited at the end.

A quick question to iPhone users

I read a piece on a Chinese website saying that iPhone doesn't support
searching contacts in its phone book. Could any of you who have used it tell
me if it's true?

Being a sort of i..Fan who's working in England and China, I haven't been
lucky enough to touch iPhone, - it's not on the European market yet and is
the most expensive MP3 player in Chinese market.

Interactive or interaction

The work interactive (and not interaction) has been used very specifically. It speaks not to a just the specific genre of design, that being the design of a thing that is interactive, but of process as well. Interactive design is in fact a design that considers and involves all of the stakeholders. This approach can be, and should be considered in all design.
