Primarily for UK-based list members

Hi all,

I'm about to move to London, and was wondering if anyone can point me
towards some good Masters level courses in Usability / UX / interaction
design etc.

I've got a couple of years experience in UX work, but I get the
impression that having a Masters under my belt will have a positive
effect on my job prospects. Any advice would be appreciated!

CalHospitalCompare

Hey all,

Wondering if anyone here worked on this site, or knows someone who did.

http://www.calhospitalcompare.org

I am interested in the way they display comparison data, and how they
decided on the nomenclature and aggregated the content on relative scale

contact me off list if you are are in the above set

Comment order patterns

I am currently looking at 2 web-based bug tracking applications. On their
bug view pages, both of them have a block of meta-data information (summary,
severity, assignee etc.) at the top portion. Below this portion, they both
list the comments/updates which were entered by various users.

Here's the catch: one of them lists the comments in chronological order, the
other one in reverse chronological order. I personally think chronological
listing makes the most sense as:
1. I know exactly where to scroll my browser window to find the latest
comment (the very end).
2.

Practical books for HCI practitioners

Hi all,

I am compiling a list of "practical" books for the following three areas:

1) Understanding user needs
2) UI design
3) UI testing

I am looking for books that don't just talk about methods theoretically, but
give a concrete process/procedure along with real life examples.

Thanks,
Oliver

Media visibility of our craft (Was: Salary Survey?)

Our profession isn't in the list even in 2005. That's just sad.

Survey Dilemma

This falls under the "other duties as assigned" category...

Our executives have asked my team (UCD & Web Analytics) to conduct a survey of "end users and business & IT stakeholders" (exact words) to collect data that will be mapped to proposals to migrate our email, calendar, web portal, team collab and real-time collaboration tools to either a full IBM stack or Micrsoft stack. We currently use Notes for email, calendars, meetings, team collab & Sametime for instant messaging and screen-sharing.

these conversations

Just a quick thought...

Its pretty easy for some of the seasoned members of this group to
become bored and discount some of these topics as tired and
fruitless. But I think there is great value here. First, having spent
a huge amount of time in the design field, but not in New York or
Silicon Valley, these conversations help many talented individuals
continue to grow beyond the limitations of their geography. Second,
there are many amongst this group that have yet to have these kind of
discussions. I think we all have to have the 'defining the damn
thing' discussion.
